Some interesting facts about coffee: Today, over 2.25 billion cups of coffee are consumed worldwide every day. Most farmers cultivate the Arabica species. Although less popular, Robusta coffee has a slightly more bitter taste and a higher caffeine content. There are both hot and cold extraction methods for ground coffee, and the caffeine content varies depending on the type of beans and the preparation method. Typically, a serving of instant Arabica coffee contains about 70 mg of caffeine, while a cup of brewed Robusta coffee can contain up to 200 mg.

Brazil is the largest coffee producer in the world, accounting for nearly one-third of global coffee production. 54% of Americans over the age of 18 drink coffee every day. Coffee is the second most traded commodity in the world — after oil.

The lethal dose of caffeine is estimated at around 100 cups of coffee. Some studies suggest that, when consumed in moderation, coffee can lower the risk of Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, and Parkinson’s disease.

New Yorkers consume seven times more coffee than residents of any other U.S. city.
The history of coffee also has its darker moments: coffee played an important role, along with sugar production, in the establishment of slavery in Cuba.

Interestingly, the coffee plant naturally contains caffeine to attract bees for pollination, while also serving as a natural pesticide, paralyzing and killing certain insects that feed on the plant.
